Corrective Function
It is one of the core functions of the plant engineering. Whenever a machine fails to carry out the intended work in a production department, the production department shall immediately inform to the PED through a maintenance service requisition. The head of the plant engineering & management shall assign the maintenance crew, meant for the cause to repair the machine or equipment & restore its condition. The order of priority or sequence of the jobs of the maintenance shall be decided by the head or in-charge or foreman of the Maintenance/PED. Usually the priorities are decided on the basis of First Come First Serve (FCFS), Service In Random Order (SIRO), Earliest Due Date (EDD), Any Pre-emptive or Non pre-emptive preferences or Johnson's & Jackson's rules of sequencing or by using other operations research techniques as assignment problem, etc.
Based on the nature of the organization, type of production & other prevailing conditions or situations, this function is observed in different forms such like Break-Down Maintenance (B/D M), Operate to Failure and Corrective Maintenance (OFCM), Corrective Maintenance (CM), Emergency Maintenance (EM), etc.
