Planning Function in Maintenance

Planning function in maintenance is the determination of a course of action to achieve predetermined goals or formulating the expectations between available resources and required results. In other words, it is deciding in advance what is to be done. Planning involves in selection of missions and objectives and the approaches and actions to achieve them. It needs decision making i.e. selecting from alternatives among future courses of action plans, which can provide a rational approach to accomplish preset objectives. Planning bridges the gap from where we are, to where we want to go.

In plant engineering Department, the scope of planning function is wide spread. The right planning can save the time, energy and material.
