Chemical Reactions Producing Fluorescence:

There are various kinds of reactions that lead to generation of fluorescence. These are binary or ternary complexation (ion association), substitution reactions, enzymatic reactions, redox reactions, kinetic methods, extractions, etc. We would consider briefly every of these methods along with examples to described the principle.

Binary Complexation

A binary complex holds one central ion and one ligand just e.g., Al combines along with alizarin to produce fluorescent binary complex.  Same, various derivatives of 8-hydroxyquinoline, azo dyes, Schiff's bases, etc., show fluorescence through the formation of binary complexes along with metal ions.
