Environmental Concerns:
As earlier elaborates, the density of the fluid whose flow is to be measured could have a huge effect on flow sensing instrumentation. An effect of density is most important while the flow sensing instrumentation is measuring gas flows, such as steam. Since the density of a gas is directly affected through temperature and pressure, some changes in either of these parameters will have a direct effect on the measured flow. Thus, any modification in fluid temperature or pressure has to be compensated for to achieve an accurate measurement of flow.
Ambient temperature variations will affect the accuracy and reliability of flow sensing instrumentation. The Variations in ambient temperature could directly affect the resistance of components in the instrumentation circuitry, and, thus, affect the calibration of electric/electronic equipment. The effects of temperature variations are decreased through the design of the circuitry and through holding the flow sensing instrumentation in the proper environment.
The presence of humidity will also affect much electrical equipment, especially electronic equipment. A High humidity causes moisture to collect on the equipment. This moisture could cause grounds, short circuits, and corrosion that, in turn, might damage parts. The effects because of to humidity are controlled through manage the equipment in the proper environment.
