Throat Thickness of Fillet Weld:
- End Returns (Figure 15(b)): Fillet welds terminating at ends must be returned continuously round the corners for a distance not less than twice the size of the weld.
- Effectual length of a fillet weld shall be the length of specified size and required throat thickness. The minimum length shall be not less than four times the size of the weld.
- Intermittent welds (Figure 15(c)) shall be spaced not more than 12 t or 16 t of compression/tension respectively (t = thickness of thinner plate).
- Effective area of weld = Effective length × Effective throat thickness.
