Reconnaissance Survey
The whole area to be surveyed is inspected to choose survey stations. Significant points to be considered in selecting stations are following:
(a) Adjacent stations must be intervisible.
(b) Lines to be chained must be free of obstacles.
(c) Number of survey lines must be minimum.
(d) Survey lines should run close to the essential objects, so that offset lengths are small.
An index map is made with pencil and stations are marked. If it is necessary, changes may be made in survey lines and equivalent changes in the index plan.
