Capacitance is the ability of a process to store energy. In above figure, for instance, the walls of the tubes in the cooling water, the lube oil cooler, and the lube oil could store heat energy. This energy-storing property provides the ability to retard change. It will take a period of time for more energy to be removed from the lube oil to decrease its temperature if the cooling water flow rate is increased.
Resistance is which part of the procedure that opposes the transfer of energy among capacities. In the figure, the walls of the lube oil cooler oppose the transfer of heat from the lube oil inside the tubes to the cooling water outside the tubes.
