Cleanliness

Being the sanitation priority, a floor should be non-absorbent and capable of being simply and efficiently cleaned. All joints in flooring should be like as to offer a water-tight surface. However, greasy and oily substances should neither spoil the appearance nor should have a destroying effect on the flooring materials. For example by floorings of terrazzo gives a good appearance yet are adversely affected through greasy substances. From the viewpoint of cleanliness, marble, floorings of terrazzo, tiles and slates are commonly used.
