Frames:
In the last unit, you studied plane trusses. A struss that is a structure composed of members fastened together in such a way as to resist change in shape and it is a rigid structure if deformation is negligible. If some or all members are subjected to bending loads along their length in addition to loads at their joints, the structure is called a frame. In this unit, frames and method of solution of frames are described.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you should be able to
- identity frames,
- distinguish among frames and trusses,
- analyse frames, and
- Find out forces at hinges.
