Objectives

After studying this unit, you must be able to
-know how iron & steel are produced,
-know what are different classifications & applications of steel,
-understand how different kinds of steel are formed as alloy,
-recognize different constituents of steel and their effects on properties,
-know how steel might be treated,
-understand an alloy steel and influence of alloying on properties,
-distinguish among steel and cast iron and properties and uses of cast iron,
-know alloys of copper, aluminium and their properties and uses,
-recognize bearing materials, and
-recognize creep resistant materials.
