SIMULATION

To simulate is to initiate. Generally, simulation involves creating a model of some real phenomenon and then carries out experiments on the model evolved. This is a descriptive, and not an optimizing, method. In simulation, a given system is copied and the constants and variables related with it are manipulated in an artificial environment to check the behaviour of the system. By using simulation, an analyst may introduce the variables and constants associated to the problem, arrange the possible courses of action and establish criteria, which behave as measures of effectiveness. The advantage of simulation from the view point of the analyst stems from the fact that the results of taking a specific course of action may be estimated prior to its implementation in the actual world. Instead of using hunches and intuition to determine what can occur, the analyst using simulation may test and evaluate many alternatives and choose the one that gives the best results.

Vastly, there are four phases of the simulation procedure. They are following:

  1.   Definition of the difficulty and statement of objectives.
  2.   Construction of suitable model.
  3.   Experimentation with the constructed model, and
  4.   Evaluation of the results of simulation.
