Central pattern generators
The Neural networks which generate cyclical patterns of activity autonomously are termed as central pattern generators (CPGs). They mediate, for illustration:
- The inspiratory–expiratory sequence of ventilation
- The Limb movements during locomotion which includes alternate activation of flexors and extensors
The basic operation of CPGs is customized or overridden by the extraneous pathways.
