Transformer Testing
Transformer testing requires to be carried out to ensure in which the distribution transformers are built along with
a.) Adequate electrical strength to withstand over voltage (because of switching surges) impinging on the winding without causing flashover; and
b.) Adequate mechanical strength to bear the mechanical stresses developed on the winding in during short circuits.
The subsequent tests must ideally be conducted on the units before their acceptance:
- testing of windings - insulation and mechanical strength;
- testing of insulating transformer oil; and
- Other tests.
We now elaborate these tests in brief.
