Vertical reaction:

The vertical reaction V_A is obtained by taking moment of all forces about D in the free body diagram of Figure.

V_A × 6 + 30 × 3 - 15 - 45 + 5 × 3 giving    V_A = - 7.5 kN

showing that V_A acts vertically downward.

Similarly, considering the vertical equilibrium of the frame V_A + V_D = 0.

∴          V_D = 7.5 kN acting upwards (↑) The reactions are shown in Figure.
