Factors affecting DTA curves:
DTA is a dynamic temperature method. Thus, a large number of factors could affect the resulting experimental curves. Same to TGA curves, these factors can be divided into the two categories:
i) Sample factors, and
ii) Instrumental factors
The Instrumental factors like as size and shape of sample holder, sample holder material, heating rate of the sample, sensitivity of recording system, situated of thermocouple within the sample and atmosphere around sample. Most of these factors are related along with instrumental design. We have extremely little control on these factors. Sample features involves amount of sample, packing density, particle size, heat capacity and thermal conductivity, degree of crystallinity, dilutes of diluents, swelling and shrinkage of the sample. In subsequent lines we will concentrate on a few of the significant factors in a few details.
