Scope of Theory of Machines:
Theory of machines is an applied science. It deals along the motion in machines and actions that cause the motion. Theory of machines may be divided into two parts as :
(a) Kinematics of machines. (b) Dynamics of machines.
The kinematics of machines is the study of motion of the components & the fundamental geometry of the mechanism. Kinematics of machines mostly deals with analysis of motion in mechanisms & synthesis of mechanisms.
The dynamics of machines includes study of statics & kinetics of machinery. The forces acting on its individual members may be resolute by applying D′ Alembert's principle or Newton's second law and laws of statics in case of static in case of kinetics bodies. It helps in designing the components along the help of mechanics of materials. The dynamic analysis of machine is the expansion of rigid body kinetics. The theory of machine is the stepping stone to the following:
(1) conception of an arrangement of components
(2) definition of geometry of each part
(3) the functioning of the system
(4) assembly of parts based on design details.
A detailed analysis is required in the decision making procedure to arrive at final design of an element or a machine.
