A machine is a mechanism or collection of various mechanisms that transmits force from power source to the resistance to be conquered and, so, it does useful mechanical work. A common type of instance is the commonly utilized internal-combustion engine. The burning of petrol or diesel in cylinder results in a force on the piston that is transmitted to the crank to result in driving torque. This driving torque overcomes the resistance because of any external agency or friction, etc. at the crankshaft and so doing useful work.
