Supercharging:

Supercharging an engine performs the similar function as turbocharging an engine. A difference is the source of power used to drive the device which compresses the incoming fresh air. Within a supercharged engine, the air is generally compressed in a device known as a blower. The blower is driven by gears straightly from the engines crankshaft. The most general category of blower uses two rotating rotors to compress the air. Supercharging is more general found on two-stroke engines whereas the higher pressures in which a supercharger is capable of producing are requirement.
