Die Casting Machines:
A die casting machine carry out the following functions:
- Firmly holding the two die halves together.
- Closing the die.
- Injecting molten metal into the die.
- Opening the die.
- Ejecting the casting out of the die.
A die casting machine contains four fundamental elements namely
(a) Frame
(b) Source of molten metal and molten metal transfer
(c) Dies
(d) Metal Injection Mechanism.
These machines are categorized on the basis of injection mechanisms and are of two kinds:
(a) Hot chamber Die casting, and
(b) Cold chamber Die casting.
The fundamental difference among these two kinds is that in hot chamber, the holding furnace for the liquid metal is integral along the die casting machine, while in the cold chamber machine, the metal is melted in a separate furnace and after that poured into the die casting machine along a laddle for each of casting cycle that is also called 'shot'.
