Vacuum Filtration

The vacuum filtration procedure consists of a horizontal cylindrical drum which is partially submerged in a tank of conditioned sludge. The surface of the drum is covered along with a porous medium (cloth belts or coiled springs) and is separated within sections around its circumference. As the drum rotates, the sections function in sequence as three distinct zones: cake dewatering, cake formation and cake discharge. An internal vacuum which is managed inside the drum draws the sludge to the filter medium.
