For instance, a maximum speed cell design will have the machines in fixed sequence that are very close to each other. On the other hand, a maximum flexible operation might be to have an open layout allowing for a broad variety of potential flow paths. Tighter layout is earlier and is generally appropriate for a single product cell. For a multiple products, an open layout is preferred.
