What Time Horizon to Forecast?:

The time horizon to forecast is dependent upon the reason for forecasting. For the purpose of inventory control, the forecasting of product demand can be made on short term basis. For the purpose of production planning, product demand forecasting may be over a longer term - say months in the coming year. Although, for facilities planning, product demand forecasts are of still longer term - say 5 to 10 years.
