Miscellaneous Sources or Causes
The several other sources or causes that might be responsible for dampness in buildings are described below:
Poor Drainage of the Site
The structure, if situated on low-lying site, causes waterlogged conditions whereas impervious soil is present underneath the foundations. So, such structures, that are not well drained, cause dampness in buildings by the foundations.
Imperfect Orientation
While the orientation of the buildings is not proper or geographical conditions are such in which the walls of building get less of direct sunrays and more of heavy showers of rains and then such walls become prone to dampness.
Constructional Dampness
The walls are observed to remain in damp condition for enough time if more water has been introduced during construction or because of poor workmanship.
Dampness Due to Defective Construction
The dampness in building is also caused because of poor workmanship or methods of construction, viz. defective rain water pipe connections, inadequate roof slopes, defective joints in the roofs, improper connections of walls and etc.
