Molding Box
Molding boxes employed in sand industry are of two types like closed molding box and open molding box. The boxes employed in sand molding are usually made of wood, steel or cast iron. They contain two parts. The lower part is called drag whereas the upper part is called cope. Usually, a wooden flask is employed in green sand molding. Dry sand mold frequently needs metallic boxes since they are heated for drying. A closed metallic flask may have a rectangular or round shape as displayed in diagram.

Large and heavy boxes are made up of cast iron or steel and carry handle and grips to enable handling by cranes. A snap flask is made up of wood and it is hinged at one corner as displayed in figure. The snap flask is extensively used in green sand small non-ferrous castings.
