Thermal Conditioning
Thermal conditioning includes heating the sludge to a temperature of 248-464 ºF in a reactor at a pressure of 1,720-2,760 kN/m2 for 15-40 minutes. The applied heat coagulates the solids, breaks down the gel structure and reduces affinity for water, resulting within a sterilized, deodourized, and dewatered sludge. The supernatant from the heat treatment unit has a high BOD and might needs special treatment before redirection within the mainstream wastewater treatment procedure.
