Reliability Oriented Maintenance Models
In engineering discipline the studies of Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (R-A-M) are relatively new. Today the reliability (dependability), availability (operability when needed) and maintainability (ease of repair) have become very important considerations in purchase decisions of not only costly or huge equipment but even in consumer products.
Reliability, availability & mintainability are not only an significant integral aspects of the engineering process but also necessary scales for formulating or evaluating features and characteristics of the equipment in terms of reliability improvement, life cycle costing, cost benefit analysis, operating and capability studies such as maintenance performance indices and even influence the incentive decisions too.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you should be able to
- Quantify reliability, availability and maintainability requirement as design goals of specifications,
- Assess or apportion reliability, availability and maintainability to system assemblies and components,
- Understand the series or parallel reliability combinations for obtaining desired reliability with or without redundancy,
- Apply maintainability design methods during product development
- (fault : modularization, solution & so forth),
- Conduct maintenance performance analysis, and
- Understand the economics of reliability, availability and maintainability and system design through overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and maintenance performance indices (MPIS).
