Process Selection and Sequencing
Engineering design and manufacturing selection are intricately interwoven; recognition of this interdependence is the basis of concurrent engineering. For this discussion, it is supposed that the functional needs imposed on a discrete part have led to the definition of shape and properties and together with this to a preliminary choice of processes.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you must be able to
- List the factors influencing the processes,
- Understand the processes used in casting, deformation, powder and machining process, and
- Select a good manufacturing sequence.
