Compressed Gases:

Gases in compressed form serve countless indispensable roles within modern technology.  Oxygen is used widely to generate stronger and cheaper steels.  Acetylene welding and brazing of certain metals has been general for several years.  The other compressed, flammable gases like as hydrogen are evenly essential for the welding of certain metals.  A few metals and alloys (like as stainless steel, titanium, and zirconium) could be welded just under an inert gas atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is used broadly in fire extinguishers for chemical and electrical fires.  Within the nuclear organization, uses of compressed gases range from the further of nuclear grade hydrogen to reactor plant systems to propane and butane for heating elements or spaces.

Gases are compressed for practical purpose of transportation, use and storage.  The definition of compressed gas through the ICC (Interstate Commerce Commission) reads:  "any material or combination having in the container an absolute pressure exceeding 40 psi (pounds per square inch) at 70ºF, or regardless of the pressure at 70ºF, having an absolute pressure exceeding 140 psi at 130ºF; or some flammable material having a vapor pressure exceeding 40 psi at 100ºF."
