Molecule Motion:

The illustration of a molecule of water, having three atoms put altogether. Though, molecules also can form from two or more atoms of a single element. The oxygen tends to take place in pairs most of the time in Earth's atmosphere. Therefore an oxygen molecule is sometimes represented by the symbol O2, here the O represents oxygen, and the subscript 2 specify that there are two atoms per molecule. The water molecule is symbolized H2O since there are two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen in each molecule. At times oxygen atoms are by themselves; then we symbolize the molecule simply as O. At times there are three atoms of oxygen grouped altogether. This is the gas known as ozone which has received attention in environmental news. It is written as O3.

Molecules are at all times moving. The speed with which they move depends on temperature. The maximum the temperature, the more quickly the molecules move around. In solid, the molecules are interlocked in a kind of stiff pattern, though they vibrate constantly as shown in figure (a). In liquid, they slide and slither around as shown in figure (b). In gas, they are exactly whizzing all over the place, bump into each other and into solids and liquids adjacent to the gas as shown in figure (c).
