The parties attempt to maximise their respective gains. They attempt to settle economic issues like, benefits, wages, bonus, etc., through a zero-sum game (where my increase is your loss and your increase is my loss). Unions negotiate for maximum wages. Management desires to yield as little as possible - when getting things done through workers.
