NC Machine Operation

Machine setup & machine operation are two major tasks performed by NC machine operation. Machine setup involves following:

• Setting up of the workhold devices
• Loading the NC program
• Loading essential tools
• Measuring & entering work coordinate offset & compensation values

Apart from these, a trial run is made to ensure the smooth operation of the machine. Machine operation includes following:

• Loading and unloading the workpieces
• Machine operation monitoring for broken and worn tools
• In-process inspection and measurement and SPC charting

In big shops, these tasks are divided into two groups and handled though two different people.

Machine Maintenance

Last but not the least, CNC controls and machines should have regular maintenance. This majorly comprises changing cutting tools, lubricating moving parts, calibrating controllers, etc. In case of unexpected mechanical & electrical failure, emergency service is needed.
