Tools Used in CNC

Generally the cutting tools that are used for conventional machine tools can also be used in CNC machine tools. Through, a few differences do exist from those of the conventional tooling used.

Machining Centre Tooling:

A cutting tool employedin CNC machining centre is an assembly of some parts besides the actual cutter

Turning Centre Tooling:

In the case of turning centers, usually the single point cutting tools are used for main operations such as turning and boring.

Tool Presetting:

Since the generation of actual geometry is taken care of through the CNC part program, which is in essence the coordinates through which the cutting tool tip moves, it is significant to know the actual dimensions of the tool while it is placed in the spindle.

Automatic Tool Changes:

Any time spent by a metal cutting machine tool whileno chips are generated is a waste. Hence considerable effort is made by the machine tool designers to reduce or eliminate most of such idle times.
