Concept of Multi-threading

Multi-threaded server keeps track of the jobs submitted through one or more clients and switches circumstance among the jobs by an internal scheduling. The job scheduling is commonly a pre- emptive one that means the server executes a client’s job request for a definite capsule of time and the job gets completed in several instances. In the case of the expiry of the time capsule allotted and the server keeps the job’s status as of in which instance of time in the switches and process stack to the next client’s job waiting in the queue. When the job therefore pre-empted gets its next chance the server resumes the execution from the point where it left in the previous example. The job switch is so quick in which the client does not realise it is waiting and also the client gets a feeling that it has a dedicated server for itself. The word multi-threading is used since individual job status is maintained like a thread inside the server procedure. The RDBMS of modern age works on Client-Server architecture and works on multi-threaded server methods explained above.A thread is the smallest unit of execution in which the system can schedule to run; a path of execution by a process.
