S-Os Analysis
This system is based on the seasonality of the items.
- S - stands for Seasonal items
- Os - stands for off seasonal items.
Again here different cases can be observed for a company with reference to the seasonality of their production and product as given below. The spare part management obviously will be different in such companies.
Case-1: the Production is Seasonal - the Product also is Used Seasonally
Suppose a company purchases the certain agricultural products (such as mangoes) in raw form, processes or ripens artificially and makes in ready to eat form. Such product is seasonal and the production also will be seasonal.
Case-2: The Production is Seasonal - The Product is used continuously through out the Year
The products like sugar are used throughout the year but can be produced in the season of cane production only. The maintenance department in such companies will have full work of Preventive Maintenance in the off season while Break down Maintenance during the season and hence should plan accordingly.
Case-3: The Production and the Product Both are Continuous through out the Year
This case is usual with many companies such as a manufacturer of say automobiles. No special planning is required.
Case-4: The Production is Continuous - The Product is used seasonally through out the Year
Crackers are manufactured though out the year. Woolen cloths (winter wear) are manufactured throughout the year but used (sold) only during the seasons.
