C-I-N Analysis
This classification is also based on the criticality. This is similar to V-E-D analysis. The only difference is that the V-E-D is used for spare parts or components while C-I-N classification is often used for machinery and equipment.
- C - Stands for Critical Machines
- I - Stands for Important Machines
- N - Stands for Normal Machines
Criticality of the Equipment/Spare part is often decided based on their usage or failure cost or reliability or availability, etc. or a combination of two or more of such criteria.
The following table gives the generally used guidelines for such decision making in plant engineering departments of large industries.
(Generally if a spare part or unit or a component or a machine scores 7-10 points it is categorized under Critical; if the score is between 4-6, then it is important and if the score is below 4 points, then it is Normal).
