Stone Lintels
A stone lintel consists of an easy stone slab of greater thickness. Stone lintels could also be given over openings within brick walls. Stone lintels are the typically used at the places, whereas stone is abundantly available. Dressed stone lintels provide good architectural appearance.
Stone lintels are constructed of slabs of stones of enough length without flaws either within single piece or combination of more pieces. The thickness of the stone lintel should be 80 cm, or 4 cm for each 30 cm span, either is more. Stone is extremely weak in tension. In addition, it cracks if subjected to vibratory loads. Therefore stone lintels should be used along with caution where shock waves are quite general.
