Steel Lintels
Where the opening is huge and the super-imposed loads are heavy, lintels made from steel are used. This kind of lintel consists of rolled steel channel or joists sections either used singly or in combination of two or three units. While a single joist is used, it is either embedded in concrete, or cladded along with stone facing, so as to increase its width to match within the width of the wall. When more than one unit is placed side by side, they are kept in position through pipe separators (Figure 5).
