Cladding:
Cladding is used to gives surface protection for retaining fission products and minimizing corrosion. A Cladding is also used to hold pelletized fuel to give the needs physical configuration.
Mechanical properties, impact strength, tensile strength, such as ductility, and creep, must be adequate for the operating conditions of the reactor core. Simple of fabrication is also important. It is desirable which ordinary fabrication generates be applicable in fabricating the desired shape. A cladding must have a high corrosion resistance to its operating environment. That must have a high melting temperature to withstand abnormal operating conditions such as high temperature transients. Thermal conductivity should be high to minimize thermal stresses arising from temperature dissimilarity, and the coefficient of expansion should be low or well-matched along with in which of other materials. A cladding material should not be susceptible to radiation damage.
