TYPES OF SUPER STRUCTURES BASED ON THE METHOD OF LOAD TRANSFER
On this basis there are two types described following:
- Load Bearing Structures
- Framed Structures.
1. Load Bearing Structures: the load on the structure is transferred vertically downward through walls in this type of structure. Loads from floors and roof get transferred to wall and then wall has to transfer these loads along with self weight. In residential buildings such constructions are used where dimension of rooms is less. Residential buildings up to ground +2 floors may be built economically with such type of structures.
2. Framed Structures: a frame work of columns, beams and floors are built first in this type of structures. Then walls are built to portion the living area. The walls are only subjected to self- weight. This type of super structures is required when in a building number of stories is more and also when larger areas are to be covered free from walls.
Given table shows the comparison between load bearing structures & R.C.C. framed structures.
