Main points to be observed in Supervising Brick Masonry Constructions

The points should be observed in the construction of brick masonry are following:

1.  With uniform colour, well burnt, with exact shape and sizeUse bricks of good quality
2.  Bricks must be laid with the frog pointing upward.
3.  In water they should be soaked for 2 hours so that bricks do not absorb water from the mortar before using the bricks  in  masonry.
4.  Brick courses must be perfectly horizontal.
5.  Construction of brick wall must start from the end or corner.
6.  Mortar used must be as per specification.
7.  Verticality of the wall must be ensured by frequently checking with plumb-bob.
8.  Every time when work is stopped brick masonry should be left with toothed end.
9.  Walls should be uniformly raised. In no case difference between adjoining walls is more than 1 m. In a day no wall must  be  raised by more than 1.5 m.
10.  Use of brick bats should be ignored.
11.  In brick masonry Holdfasts for doors and windows should be embedded with cement mortar or concrete, at the time of  constructing the wall itself.
12.  The face joints should be raised to a depth of 12 to 20 mm to get proper key for plastering or pointing, when the  mortar is  green. If plastering or pointing is not to be provided, face joints must be stuck flush and finished neatly.
13.  Only single scaffolding should be used for carrying out brick work at higher levels.
14.  Brick masonry should be cured for 2 weeks regularly.
