Natural Seasoning: It can be water seasoning or air seasoning. Air seasoning is carried out in a shed having a platform. On approximate 300 mm high platform timber balks are stacked as shown in given figure. Care is taken to see that there is correct air circulation around each timber balk. In natural process moisture content reduces over a period. A well seasoned timber contains just 15% moisture. It is a slow but a good procedure of seasoning.
Water seasoning is carried out on the banks of rivers. The thicker end of the timber is kept pointing upstream side the timber is taken out after a period of 2 to 4 weeks. Sap contained in the timber is washed out to a great extent during this period. In a shed then timber is stalked with free air circulation.
