Mild Steel
Its composition contains a maximum of, 0.055% of sulphur, 0.25% carbon and 0.55% of phosphorus.
Properties of Mild Steel:
1. It is ductile and malleable.
2. It can be magnetized permanently.
3. Its specific gravity is 7.8.
4. It is more elastic.
5. Its Young's modulus is 2.1 × 105 N/mm2.
6. It may be welded easily.
7. In tension and in compression it remain equally strong.
Uses of Mild Steel:
1. In R.C.C. works Round bars are used extensively as reinforcement.
2. Rolled sections such as I, T, L, C, plates etc. are used to build steel, beams, columns, trusses etc.
3. Tubular sections are utilized as poles and members of trusses.
4. Plain and corrugated mild steel are utilized as roofing materials.
5. In making parts of many machineries Mild steel sections are used.
