GLASS
Silica is the main constituent of glass. But in this chapter, it is to be added with sodium potassium carbonate to bring down melting point. Lime or lead oxide is also added to make it durable. In the impure silica Manganese oxide is added to nullify the adverse effects of unwanted iron present. The raw materials are sieved and ground. They are mixed in particular proportion and melted in furnace. Then by blowing, flat drawing, rolling and pressing glass items are manufactured
