Field Work
As soon as in the field the survey party arrives the following details are entered in the field book:
- The date of survey
- Title of the survey work
- The names of the members of the party.
The field work can be divided into the following:
- Marking stations, drawing reference sketches.
- Reconnaissance survey.
- Line by line surveying.
Reconnaissance survey consists in going round the field and identifying appropriate stations for the network of triangles. Neat sketch of network is drawn and designated. Typical key plan drawn is similar to one shown in given figure.
On the ground all main stations should be marked. Some of the methods used for marking are following:
I. Fixing ranging poles
II. Driving pegs
III. Marking a cross if ground is hard
IV. Digging and fixing a stone.
In the field book, then reference sketches are drawn so as to recognize stations when the development works are taken up. For this measurements with respect to 3 permanent points are noted down. The permanent points may be following:
- Posts of gates
- Corner of a building
- Electric poles
- Corners of compound walls
- A tree.
After that, with respect to chain lines line by line surveying is conducted to locate different objects .
