COPPER

Copper is a naturally available metal in the form of ores which contain small amount of sulphur and iron. It is processed electrolytic ally to get purest metal after removing impurities. This metal is approximately indestructible. Copper scrap may be processed to get original copper.

Properties  of Copper

a)     Copper has reddish brown colour.

b)    Copper structure is crystalline.

c)     It is highly malleable and ductile.

d)    It resists corrosion.

e)     It may be welded easily at red heat condition.

f)      On the copper Dents can be hammered out.

g)     It has thermal conductivity and high electric.

h)    Its melting point is at 1083°C.

Uses of Copper

1. Copper is used as electric wire and cable.

2. Copper is used as lighting conductor.

3. Copper plates are used for water proofing the construction joints.

4. For hot and cold water supply, gas and sanitation connections Copper tubes are used.

5. It forms a main constituent of brass and bronze.
