CHAIN AND COMPASS SURVEYING FIELD WORK
In compass for linear measurement survey chain or tape is used. If the surveying begin from a station, goes round an area and ends at the beginning station it is called closed traverse. If survey begins from a point, goes along with a number of interconnected lines and ends at some other point it is known as open traverse. For preparing plan of an area closed traverse is used whereas open traverse is useful in the road, canal or rail projects. For chain and compass survey the following are required:
- Compass and stand
- Chain and tape
- 10 arrows
- 5 to 6 ranging rods
- Ranging poles
- Pegs and hammer
- Plumb bobs
- Line ranger, cross staff etc.
