Ashlar Masonry

Stones are dressed to get suitable shapes and sizes in this type of masonry. The height of the stones varies in the range250 mm to 300 mm. The length might not exceed three times the height. Dressing of the stone need not be very precise on all sides. Good dressing is usually made on facing side. In such type of construction mortar consumption is less compared to rubble masonry.

Depending upon the type of dressing There are different types of ashlar masonry such as, Ashlar rough dressed, Ashlar fine dressed Ashlar rock or quarry faced,  Ashlar chamfered , Ashlar facing etc. Given figure show some of such masonry.
