The Robinson annulation (or Robinson annelation) is an organic reaction used in organic chemistry for the ring formation. It was founded by Robert Robinson in 1935 as a method to develop a six membered ring by creating three new carbon-carbon bonds. The method takes a ketone and a methyl vinyl ketone to give an α,β-unsaturated ketone in a cyclohexane ring through a Michael addition followed by an aldol condensation. This method is one of the key methods to give fused ring systems.
