The Favorskii reaction (different from the Favorskii rearrangement) is the nucleophilic attack of a terminal alkyne with acidic protons on carbonyl group. The reaction was found in the early 1900s by the Russian chemist Alexei Yevgrafovich Favorskii.
When catalyzed by acid, this reaction is known as the Meyer-Schuster rearrangement.
