The Arndt-Eistert synthesis is a sequence of chemical reactions designed to change a carboxylic acid to a higher carboxylic acid homologue (i.e. includes one additional carbon atom) and is taken as homologation process. It is named after German chemists Fritz Arndt (1885-1969) and Bernd Eistert (1902-1978). It is popular method of producing β-amino acids through α-amino acids.
